Robots are getting
smaller, stronger, and smarter. At the same time, software
tools for developing robotic systems are growing
more sophi-
sticated. As a result, robots are gaining popularity across
a range of manufacturing sectors from factory floors to
semiconductor fabrication facilities.
Among the improvements in robot arms and their controllers
are increased accuracy and speed, greater intelligence, and
reduced maintenance and floor-space requirements. In
addition, improved end effectors - or grippers - as well as
tools and
equipment that attach to robot arms are expanding
robot flexibility, work quality, and safety.
